Whether you subscribe to the philosophy or not is somewhat irrelevant.

The fact is that the kernel is unsupportable by anyone but the author
of the binary module that tainted the kernel[1]. That's not to say it won't
work (demonstrably, tainted kernel do work, at least most of the time).
But if it goes wrong, you are at the mercy of the author of that module.
If you happen to have two binary modules, then good luck. Even the vendors
of the binary modules are unlikely to be able to help you.

[1] Technically, even without access to the source of all the loaded
    modules, someone could flounder around in the dark, and take a
    guess at what was going on. Assuming the binary module hasn't
    messed around too much with kernel data structures (which is a
    pretty big assumption), they may even be right some of the time.
    But realistically, kernel developers have better ways to spend
    their time, and hence to all intents and purposes, a tainted
    kernel is unsupportable.
