If you can demonstrate pecuniary loss, you can take then to the Small
Claims Court - most of the "service" companies back down and pay up as
soon as the Summons arrives.   I've had successes against Telewest
(three times), British Gas and EDF.  

I hate the idea of this country becoming as litigious as the USA, but
I'm really sick of abysmal service.
