Big companies get a bad reputation because they have a strong habit of
forgetting the reasons why people went with them in the first place.

Worse some small companies can't figure out what to give people so they
just gain trust through improving brand awareness by buying more
advertising.

Smaller but semi-known providers are likely to want you to become a
customer. After everything is set-up they can keep taking your money for
years if they play their cards right.

As Matthew said: "The more advertising you see, the more you should
avoid the company." 

Avoid Tiscali like the plague. With BT I really expect that you would be
paying too much for services provided, however I guess they could have
slashed their prices.

I just got Be (www.beunlimited.co.uk) and am happy with it.
