There's not a practical problem either playing or ripping DVDs.

Some worthwhile topics for petitions:

 - Make region-coding illegal.[1]  This would be useful because it would
   apply to future formats such as Blu-ray.

 - Make (or keep) EUCD circumvention legal for a variety of uses, such as
   interoperability, accessibility by disabled people, excerpting for
   comment and parody, ...  Again by making this a specific obligation
   it ensures that Linux can play future formats.

 - Stop software patents from being used as anti-competitive tools.  You
   shouldn't be able to patent around a standard, full stop.

[1] As in, explicitly illegal in UK law.  It's probably illegal
already under various free trade agreements.
