First of all thank you everyone who gave advice on this topic.

I followed the plan on http://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer except I ensured 
I used the backports with '-t lenny-backports' added for good measure.

The BBC audio/visual works fine now.

FYI: All the Adobe eulas are available here http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/ .
