I have no idea what Demon charge per month for an ADSL connection, but generally
speaking you GWYPF in this life !
Whilst it is probably true that no ISP can do much physically about problems
that usually arise on the BT side of things, I believe they can at least do
some tests remotely (to establish whether the modem is in sync etc).
As a massive generality, overseas call centres are often staffed by people that
'read from scripts' with little or no technical understanding. What makes that
even worse is that they can be impossible to understand  (having said that I
have the same problem with BT staff in the UK recently!).

I have two connections with Enta via ukfsn and have always found their helpdesk
people to know what they are talking about - but then they appear to be entirely
UK based. Also I don't have to phone some ludicrously expensive 09... number to
report problems  (which have ALWAYS been with the BT line).  I can recommend
them - though I guess they are not at the 'supercheap' end of the market.
As I say, you get what you pay for!
