this is for SE England, but i don't think London is included. gllug has 
various people based outside london so it might provide an opportunity 
for someone.
in theory the idea comes from an academic.

i can put you in touch with various specialists here at UoW, but you 
have the information and can talk to other universities.

Dear All,

If you have an idea and a company based in South East of England is 
willing to work on that idea, the SME can get availed of either 
£4000/£8000 as ‘Innovation voucher’ to help developing the idea into a 
business / proof of concept stage.

*NOTE: Application has to be MADE by SME directly (not by the staff of 
UoW). *

I will be able to offer my help to understand how the SEEDA works (if 
any of the academic staffs needs). Please refer to the following link

Few Notes on SEEDA:

*Deadlines*

Scheme launch 1st February 2011

*Applications deadline 9**th **March 2011 <<<<*

Offers made 31st March 2011

Projects initiated by 1st May 2011 (latest)

Projects completed by 31st July 2011 /(latest)/

Projects report completed by 31st July 2011 /(latest)/

Two types of voucher are available:

1. The first is fully funded voucher to the value of *£4,000 *(excluding 
VAT).

Businesses are responsible for paying the VAT.

2. the second voucher is for *£8,000 *(excluding VAT), which the company is

required to match with £4000 in cash to create a project of £12,000 
(excluding

VAT). Businesses must pay VAT on the total cost of the project.

*Payment*

The Innovation voucher is a grant to the SME of either £4000 or £8000, 
although the

company does not receive any money directly. Payment to the value of the 
voucher

will be made by SEHTA to the collaborating University on provision of 
evidence of the

project, in the form of the short final report from the SME.

The business must be located within the SEEDA region:

 Berkshire

 Buckinghamshire

 East/West Sussex

 Hampshire

 Kent

 Oxfordshire

 Surrey.

*Sector eligibility*

Most sectors* are eligible, but priority will be given to the following 
SEEDA priority

sectors:

 Advanced Engineering and Marine

 Aerospace & Defence

 Environment & Energy

 Financial and professional services

 ICT, Software and Digital Media

 Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences and Healthcare

*Provider*

 Any Higher Education Establishment or University located the UK

 Any UK Public Sector Research Establishment

*Projects*

Example eligible projects could include:

 innovation/technology audit

 new business model development

 new service delivery/development

 technical validation of a technology

 developing a prototype of demonstrator

 Consultancy form experts or specialists

 Using knowledge-base facilities or equipment

*Ineligible Activities*

 training courses (standard or bespoke)

 internships for students of knowledge institutions

 aid that would promote/subsidize the cost of exports

 design and production of advertising materials

 sales activities

 corporate website design or development

 software or equipment purchases, e.g. computers, printers etc

 Legal advice

 Continuation of and existing projects with the knowledge providers

*Selection Criteria*

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

 quality of technological/service element of project

 possibility of new product/service emerging from work

 possibility of larger project emerging from work

 track record/reputation of recipient and provider

 added value in partnership between Recipient & Provider

 SME operating in a SEEDA priority sector
