[Gllug] Linux Tablets

Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses to my query last year about the Samsung
Galaxy Tab. I took a look at it in two shops, and wasn't impressed. Both
display units seemed to have strange ticks - they both buzzed, for
unknown reasons, and the customized version of Android was not intuitive
at all. And of course, the cost (around £400 was the cheapest I found.)
The screen size (7") was plausible, but probably not large enough; given
the problems, I wasn't going to get one, so didn't investigate whether
the screen was suitable for my purposes.

I've now got an Archos 10.1 tablet, for £300. 10" screen, very clear,
good sound from the speakers, 16 gb flash memory. The version of Android
it comes with is somewhat idiosyncratic; not sure whether that is to do
with Android proper, it's customization, or the default apps bundled in.
Perhaps Debian or suchlike will be ported to it.

But generally, I'm quite happy with it. Anyone else get a tablet for Xmas?

John
