Salary: £33-39k per annum depending on experience
Company: King's College London (Centre for Computing in the Humanities)

The Centre for Computing in the Humanities at King's College London is currently looking for a full time Systems Administrator. This is a permanent position and the appointment will be made at Grade 6, between £33,070 - £39,038 (including £2,323 London Allowance). The post will initially be based at King's College London's Drury Lane site - just round the corner from Covent Garden.

CCH is a full department within the School of Arts and Humanities at KCL, and has approx. 35 members of staff (read more about what we do here -- http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/humanities/depts/cch/). The department runs dedicated server and storage hardware across two sites, supporting some 140 production websites (built on Open Source software or bespoke applications), together with substantial staging and development infrastructure, processing environments, and a multi-terabyte media archive. Our servers are running enterprise virtualisation hypervisor software (currently VMware ESX 3.5); the vast majority of servers / virtual server instances run Debian GNU/Linux, although a small number of Windows application servers are also maintained.

The successful candidate will be in charge of the day to day running, maintenance and security of the server infrastructure at CCH. He/she will be the first line of contact for members of the CCH research and development teams when server support or administration is required, and will undertake provision of virtual server infrastructure for new projects; installation and upgrade of packages and software; routine administration of operating systems; liaison with key members of the central KCL ISS team; and maintenance of core services such as LDAP, SVN, and internal development and support tools. The postholder will participate in and advise on longer term initiatives, including infrastructure strategy, planning and hardware procurement, and will assist in the evolution of security, backup and deployment policies.
