It sounds to me like you've unwittingly dragged the terminal window to the
left or right hand side of the screen where modern desktops instigate an
auto-position feature which snaps the window to the left or right hand half
of the screen. This allows you to look at two windows side by side easily.
 To get it back to where you started you have to drag the window away from
the edge by it's title bar and it should snap back to the original size and
position.
