Apologies if this appears twice - I originally sent it with the wrong
from address. I think that means the list dropped it.

Hi all,

Some X questions. With a lot of words on my complex setup.

At the moment I have a ridiculously complicated setup which partly has
come about because my old, old laptop died and partly because work
limits my options.

My home setup (for when working from home) used to be a dual screen
setup. I don't remember the exact resolution but it will be around 2k x
1k

This laptop died - wouldn't even get to the bios - so I've bought a new
one and also a new 4k monitor. Unfortunately, I haven't yet managed to
get it working on the laptop hence the first complication:

I'm using a raspberry pi to drive the screen and then, via a point to
point ethernet link displaying the desktop on the 4k monitor.

So now to my first question - after starting X I have to run:

xterm -hold -e 'xhost +'

to allow remote connections. Is there any way to make X just accept
these connections? I cannot see anything in the man page.

Now to work setup:

I run a reflection X server on my windows machine. Using cygwin I run
fvwm window manager. From another machine (the one I actually work on) I
then display xterms on my desktop. The remote desktop has no window
managers installed hence the need to use cygwin to supply one.

When working from home I then use citrix to get my windows work desktop
onto my home display.

When at work, and on my old setup, everything works fine.

But now, with the 4k screen, I don't see the mouse pointer when the
mouse is over the reflection X window.

By changing the Xcursor theme to whiteglass I get the pointer back
except when over the xterms started from the machine I actually work on.

Cygwin X terms have the normal I pointer. But the remote ones dont.

Now I can just ssh from a cygwin xterm to the box I work on but work
doesn't let that use an ssh keyfile so I have to enter my password each
time I want a new xterm.

Second question: why don't the xterms started from the remote host seem
to pick up the X server's Xresources related to the cursor? Other stuff
works, I can control where and how big the xterm is but cannot get the
cursor to appear.

Let me know if more info is required.

Tim.
