Thanks for the advice everybody.
I've checked out the links Guy posted and it seems what I've done is =
right so far.
At the moment I am booting into windows 2000 to surf the web at a =
reasonable speed. If it wasn't for the modem problem I would be using =
Linux full time.
I'm going to get an external modem and hopefully that should sort it =
out.
By the way if anybody has got an old modem lying about that they would =
like to get rid of for a small price, I would be interested.
