[Gloucs] email problems

I'm trying to get mutt set up with fetchmail and sendmail - dead simple,
just a single-user machine.
A few questions as I am not having any luck and the few bits of advice I
have found on the web have seemed really complicated, stuff like IP
masquerading or somesuch.

OK, I'm running fetchmail with a basic .fetchmailrc which I'm sure is fine,
fetchmail -kv shows all the mail coming in. My question: where does it go?
When I fire up mutt, my inbox is empty and /var/spool/mail/fb has size 0.

Apparently I then need sendmail to get my mail (this is crazy - there must
be a simpler way. Why can't fetchmail fetch mail and let sendmail send it?)

So I ran sendmail -bd or something similar and it processed 109 messages
(fetchmail only sucked down 16, so I have no idea where the 109 came from).

Stuff happened, but guess what when I open up mutt? No emails.

I have tried to configure sendmail using YaST but I think I need to do some
more. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong / not doing? I can provide further
information if needed.

Also, is it true that root can't get email using fetchmail - it has to be
diverted to a normal user's mailbox? (You have to state "person to receive
root's mail" - root would be the obvious option I would have thought.) This
seems bizarre, if true. I have tried getting email as root and as fb, but no
difference.

Thanks in advance,
Francis.
