Well, I went anyway.
About 20 mins. to get oriented (first time at the NEC (or any show like this
since 1987)) quick fly round the networks bit, then to the linux bit.
Disagree with Adrian Wooster - more than 10 mins - some good stuff some not
so.
Had a look around, picked up a few IBM stress relieving TUX's, met a rep. from
OXLUG (sorry - Adrian something I think) BUT ........
I MUST SAY I was pleased and proud to shake the hand of Jono Bacon and will be
first in the que to get his book - whenever that will be.
After my first foray around the linux bit I went back to the main part of the
hall and found .......... a huge truck-trailer with APC on the side - well,
as I've used APC greatly and am a strong believer that EVERY PC should have
one (got 2 here - "SmartUPS 650Si" using PowerChute 4.3 - works like a dream)
had a chat with Sabrina, got some goodies and some info. Then went back to
the linux side.
Felt a bit conned that "loads-a-dosh" was required to hear `Maddog' Hall or
one of the O'Reilly family - Oh well, next time perhaps.
One interesting comment to share. One guy on the IBM stand interupted my
daydream, wherby I was thinking of that great, historical meeting in 1971
between the Directors of IBM and a certain Mr W. Gates (it's alright, I've
got the soap and water ready), I was thinking "bet they wish that had had a
different outcome" and I told this guy just that, well blow me down, he
agreed with me!!!
That'll do for now. Anyone else got comments?
