If you can't return the book don't worry too much - a lot will still
be useful in the older book and you can try a different book on Fedora
3 for variety.

Not many people do install OSes (though some Windows experts wipe and
reinstall Windows every few months, that is not very useful with
Linux.)

If you have bought a new desktop PC and you are not trying to 'dual
boot' with another operating system, and the maker has built and
tested the PC well, the install should go smoothly and will probably
be very boring and quick. It is definitely worth trying it no matter
how little you know about computers.

If you are in Cirencester area I just met a tech based in Chippenham,
Wilts. who specialises in installing Linux for small businesses.
Email me privately and I will send you his details on Monday.

I am sure there are other pros in GLUG - I don't think they will
solicit you but I am sure they will follow up if you ask on the list.

I have not tried that with Fedora - but with SuSE Linux setting up
printer and broadband was not complicated. However it can depend a
lot on the model of printer, and whether you choose an ethernet
connection for broadband (easy) or a USB modem (potentially tricky.)
Here, as you suspect, it is possible to run into difficulties and need
to call on some experience either by googling for help followed by a
user mailing list or calling directly on a professional.

Above all enjoy it!

Best regards, David
