The other option is to take the BT fairground special.  
"No the line tests fine" you try new microfilters, a new router, borrow your 
mates router and microfilter, then 20 calls later "oh there appears to be..." 
5 days later "we are going to regrade your line" you now have a 1/2M 
connection and you are less than 2.5Km from the exchange but it works? that's 
what I call progress.
