Well, there's a good Maplins (with convinient but fascist wheel-clamping carpark) and an Apple store upstairs in Beachwood arcade, and several bookshops including a largeish Ottakers and a medium-sized Waterstones, plus a tatty-looking but very good electronics components shop opposite KFC on the lower high street (they'll sell you "one of", instead of a Maplins pack of 4), but other than that it's mostly women's clothes shopping and bars. There's also standard PC World out of town (strictly for emergencies only).
Montpellier (quarter of a mile south of high street) has yer posh boutiques and is a nice walk around in its own right. Lower high street (west) has yer bargain basement chav shops. Upper high street (east) has yer standard brands; HMV, M&S, Dixons, Next etc. Plus two bog-standard mini-malls, both on the high street; Regent Arcade which is medium sized and has a Sony centre and a Panasonic centre, and Beachwoood Arcade which is small and has the afforementioned Apple shop upstairs. One big department store, Chav House - er sorry Cavendish House - which isn't as posh as the one over the road was before it burned down and was turned into Otakers bookshop. There's also a really, really superb theatre, the Everyman, next to Regent Arcade. Cheltenhams's pleasant, easy to walk around, there are enough shops, the parking's easier than Oxford, but if you're already in Oxford, which has more shops, bigger shops and an indoor market (which Cheltenham doesn't), you won't gain much.
For local computer shopping I instead recommend Excalibur Computer Fair at Worcester, easy access from M5 J6, www.theshowguide.co.uk , next show Sunday 12th Feb.
