It's the little specialist places that make a town interesting - second
hand books, those little hardware shops that have bits that you didn't
realise you needed until you see them "what a good idea" or "my
grandfather had one of those and I always wondered where it went", a
place to get a proper Aussie hat, interesting little tea shops off the
worst of the coach rounds, and so forth.
To much of the west is turning into Little Chav Street monoculture of
global corporate chains (sic)
Oxford has Smith and Low for hardware but its really disappointing for
second hand books given what you would think of the nature of the place.
And since the place by the river closed no where particular specialist
for electronic repairs (not that you can repair anything made in the
last 15 years anyway).
