I too have a Netgear DG834.
As a result of your prompt,  I find that my down-load speed is 1824
(or 228 kB/s ).

That is a bit higher than the 150 kB/s I have been getting.
However, I used to get 300 kB/s.

Could it be a coincidence that BT turned down the available speed just 
as I  moved into my new "Study" ?

The old master socket was physically removed from the old location and 
reinstalled in the new one.  New high-quality phone cable was used.
I cannot believe that this could be the cause.

The Netgear Firewall/Router was installed close to the plug-in filter.

I am not familiar with the mains-borne version, though I have met it in 
another context.

I am located at the maximum distance from Malvern XCHG,  but since I 
used to get 300 kB/s  I cannot believe that to be an issue.

Could system overload have provoked BT to "ration" available bandwidth ?
