[HLUG] ubuntu 6.06 wifi

hi guys finally got round to installing 6.06 on my pc today and i have 
fallen in love with it but have one major issuse with the wifi as we speak.
Using the Networking in the menu and selecting the wifi and then:
When setting up wifi using DHCP and activating it is says its active 
untill i reload the Network manager then it goes inactive but never 
allows me to connect to the net or ping my network.
When i setup my wifi  using a staic ip it comes up with a warning 
telling me my pc is not connected, and again i cant coneect to the net
Any help please
