Hi Tim

Network manager is very good, but my experiences of it have been a bit 
hit and miss too. DHCP seems to have some issues. Its not a really an 
Ubuntu problem, Network Manager just needs a bit more time to fix bugs i 
think.

You may find some help there. Alternately, just go back to using std 
network connection without NM. I think you also have to edit the std 
wifi settings a little before, NM works properly. This is mentioned in 
the Ubuntu Forums too.
