Hi Gang,

Anyone remember the discussion about a group project from the autumn,
and my rants about the libraries/council from last year ?

Well two things; I made contact with the manager (?) at Leominster
library, who agreed in principle to allow us to set up a display about
Linux/FOSS. She was very wary when I mentioned allowing the public to
take DVD's away and copy them, but promissed to have a look at GPL etc.
Obviously I would expect to explain in detail to the higher up decision
makers in due course, but it's all good for spreading the word.

So, I was on the phone to the DVD compiler at Linux Format magazine, and
asked him if it was OK for us to copy his DVD's and give them out.
Whilst the material on the discs is OS and GPLled, the disc itself is
itellectual Property of the publishers. Anyway, the man was quite happy
for us to do straight copies of the magazine discs ! Again I will have
to follow this up in writing to show the library people and make sure my
back is covered.

I believe we have the basis for a plan of action here, anyone else
interested in taking part?.

Pete

I'll be away on a long trip so won't be coming myself. Melodie Winch would be pleased to have confirmation of HLUG coming: style.winch at virgin.net
