Hi

Now, this might open a can of worms, but for one reason or other my
normally happy Ubuntu box had lost its 3d drivers, so I was on the slow
2d ones. When I tried installing the real Nvidia site ones, that didn't
work too well either (used to be fine in Mandrake years ago).

Well I was getting fed up as my pc was quite noticeably slower with the
GPL 2D graphics drivers, so I tried again.

I tried the 'envy' script that an enterprising Italian chap has written
and takes very seriously by the look of it. It installs all the
compilation, fakeroot deb packages, downloads the latest stable Nvidia
installer, and sets up everything including your xorg.conf file. It does
tell you what its doing,a nd gives you the chance to say no at crucial
points if you want.

Within 4 minutes, I'm back with my (newer !! Nvidia 3D drivers so all I
can say is well done !!).

So if you're struggling with ATI or NVIDIA problems, try this :-

I must admit I'm impressed ....
