Anyhow, I would love to get my laptop back, and any help you can muster would be gratefully received. As I hope I made clear, I am on the Scottish border, so a bit off your patch, but I was advised to try your group as it is reported to be extra-active and knowledgeable. All I need to know is ...if I use the recovery disc Zoostorm sent me, will I still have windows to play with, or does it wipe the lot. There are many warnings that I will lose all unsaved data, but does that include operating systems?

Hi John

I cant really help sadly. Although Zenwalk sounds interesting, I've
never tried, and its probably a bit less popular than your Fedora,
Ubuntu, Debian, Suse, PCLOS etc.

Generally, Linux doesnt deliberately mess up your Windows partitions,
although the opposite isnt true, ie Windows will usually not show a
linux partition on its boot menu.

It could be that your Windows partition just got 'lost' on the boot menu.

What you could try is the gparted bootable cd, or just use Knoppix if
you've got that handy, or even an ubuntu live cd, which also has
gparted. With gparted you can use it just like Partition Magic and it
will show if you still have a Windows partition.

Hopefully, someone with some more precise knowledge of Zenwalk can help ??

Julian
