[HLUG] Free SW day in Hereford High Town, Wales, Mars, Alpha Centauri etc.

Pete,

I hate to say it, but no surprises there really, with your best intentioned attempts - bureaucracy wins again ... (ever heard the term: 'Jobsworths' - pretty apt, eh?!) They all use Windoze probably  ... This is why I hesitated 'opening my mouth' or adding my 'penny-worth' when you first mentioned it ... I think we might get a more 'positive attitude' from Powys Council, if you tried something similar in Presteigne or Llandod for example, but they are in another country of course ... (might as well be another galaxy or dimension too, eh?). The negativity of all this 'red tape' is quite depressing when someone such as yourself starts out with a constructive idea, what a pity -, again. I'm still learning about Linux of course, but whenever I have the opportunity, I try to encourage others to 'give it a go' (without mentioning my own inability to come to grips with MythTV, Wine, VMWare, VirtualBox, OCRopus etc.). If you are feeling really masochistic, you could offer to demonstrate Linux in the Jobcentre, and I'd gladly come along to help, but I think we would be forcibly removed before we'd even got started. Perhaps the library would be a suitable venue, if we could get around the 'Liability Insurance' issue? - Maybe the library is already covered? - One would hope so?!

Phew - I'm now going to go back to staring at my monitor for a few hours, wondering what I have done wrong with VirtualBox - :(

Chris.
