Merry Christmas !

Not really sure if I can help, but I suppose other things you can try is 
to update your kernel perhaps. I've had udev issues in the past with 
CDROMs. Basically couldnt use the cdrom, as hal/udev had an issue with it.

I might have a ps2 mouse adaptor lying around at work if that might help
