Hi Gang !

I have uploaded pdfs of the display panels I have been working on. You can get
them from

www.peterlinnell.org.uk/150HowTo.pdf
www.peterlinnell.org.uk/150OpenDisc.pdf
www.peterlinnell.org.uk/150WHATISL.pdf

Note that these pdfs are at 150 dpi and coloured for screen use so if you print
them they will not be true unless you take suitable steps yourself !

I still have one to do, history, philosophy, free vs open etc.

Can I take this opportunity to repeat my earlier mailing about the namesco
connection;

I have spoken to Matt at length about the issue of his employers funding the
production of our display panels and leaflets. I would like to remind everyone
that the preparation of artwork for this has involved a non trivial amount of my
own time pro bono and I wish to ensure this is not wasted.

I can see why some people are expressing reservations about such a complex
process but I have spent some time drilling down into it and this is what I have
come up with.

Namesco would like to help us, but cannot supply cash, nor clear direct
invoices, without intervention from head office in Italy. If they are asked to
pay for anything art related (like this project) that will have to be signed off
as well. The truth is we have a matter of days. Matt has come up with this
solution which depends on trust in myself and Matt to work.

I have set up an affiliate window account for Synaptic, the voluntary enabling
group of which I am a trustee. I have put a link to namesco (affiliate merchant
partner) on the site. People can then go through the Synaptic site to namesco
and sign up for a domain/hosting deal.
At this point Synaptic gets £25 credit on behalf of hlug display costs.
(It is of course a matter of personal choice how many months people wish to
maintain the new namesco account for).

Matt and I have spent most of the last day and half fine tuning this to make
sure
everything works as it should. We think it is now ready to go, so here is how it
works.

1. Log into www.synaptic.org.uk.
On the index page, across the top are a row of link buttons one of which is
NAMESCO; click on this link which takes you to

2. A namesco domain registration page, offering to register a domain for a quid.
Insert your chosen name which must be a DOT INFO domain;and proceed to the next
page, which should include a discount voucher offer and confirm the billing
amount is ONE POUND. You need to
fill in the usual domain registry personal information, which is a legal
requirement. Go on to the next page which is

3. Checkout; the usual online transaction process. Make sure that the discount
has been applied, and the bill total is just £1 (plus 17p VAT). If it is more
than this, cancel out, clear your history and cache and start again a few
minutes later. Note also you need to have javascript enabled for the backend to
work ( ask Matt when you see him next :-))

4. Once the transaction is confirmed by namesco, they will pay £25 into
Synaptic's affiliate window account. Synaptic is a voluntary group (of which I
am a trustee) which has agreed to act as the enabler for this process. For this
to work in time, we need ten deals to go through as soon as possible.

It is important to click through the synaptic site because the backend uses the
link to ensure the bonus payment goes to the correct place; if you try to work
through the namesco home page you will not get the £1 offer, nor will the bonus
be paid. For those looking for the added value for the hlug over the usual
commercial deal, the bonus payment for this account has been raised.

I am happy to be available on the phone to deal with any further questions about
this, subject to the vagaries of signal
07 890 819 556
but cannot promise to respond to emails over the holiday. Please could you drop
me an email to me at peterlinnell.org.uk
when you have signed up ( so I can track payments and let everyone know when we
have hit target!)

Mind the Gap!

Pete H@

ps, if anyone wants their £1.17 back let me know and it can be arranged. In
addition, Synaptic could always find a good use for a few quid; our directory of
grant making trusts is several years out of date now for example....
