Tony
I like the name -
I had a job in london yesterday and once I'd finished as I was not too
far away I called into Fossbox to meet up with Paula who is one of the
organisers of http://www.flossie.org/ a network for women involved in
FLOSS which has just been set up
I had a long chat with Carlos and Paul who work for Fossbox -
http://www.fossbox.org.uk/ its a not for profit funded by Tower Hamlets
Council - aimed at digital inclusion - and they have been think about
running a schools project so were very interested in what we are doing.
Carlos was particularly interested when I told him that you had been
looking at lubuntu as a basis for tuxedu (i didn't know you'd given it a
name at the time) - so I said I would put you in touch with him (i'll
send you his email) - he is interested in shadowing our project and has
offered to help us if he can and possibly come up to Herefordshire at
some point during the project.
They were mainly thinking of working with secondary schools offering
workshops with Arduino as an extra curricula activity and had not realy
considered talking to primary schools so were very interested in our
approach.
Just to clarify - they do not want to charge schools - any projects they
do with schools will be completely free - the schools in Tower Hamlets
are huge and very culturaly diverse compared to Herefords schools so
it's very different in that respect , but they are interested in
looking at what we do and then maybe using aspects of it and sharing
information with others around the UK who want to run similar schools
projects - there may be a possibility of one in Manchester.
Paula is also going to put me in contact with the guy who ran the
original Arduino/secondary school workshops in Coventry - incase this is
useful for us - he is something to do with Warwick University.
Anyway I said we would be happy to share info and any help they can
offer us would be galdly received. Like most similar organisations they
don't have spare cash and their funding is under pressure but they are
keen to help if they can.
It would be great to get a primary school in herefordshire talking to
one in tower hamlets about FOSS - just a thought:)

Carlos had also heard a little about Vinux and he and Paula were very
interested in talking to you about that as well.
