Yeah, lots of lovely eye candy. But at least on my Kubuntu it tends to work less well the KDE 4.5. Plasma desktop in combination with dbus tends to run up to 90-120% of combined CPU usage (I haven't got the slightest clue how they can get over a hundred, but hey). It means the desktop more or less grinds to a halt when you want to use the menus or sidebars or so. Funnilly the 3d effects are not affected. Killing and restarting is a workaround. But according to google for a lot of people it was a prob for a lot of users with earlier versions of KDE 4 as well.

Honestly, unfortunately I haven't been convinced by the other desktops either, otherwise I would have changed desktop & window manager by now. Throwing out a good, stable working environment for an unstable one, that stumbles from beta to beta probably didn't do linux much good at convincing people to change.

I once had a programme under windows. The programmer stated "Microsoft would call it a release. I call it a beta." KDE at moment strongly reminds me of that. And that they give their unstables ennumeration most other projects use for releases doesn't help. I've been usin KDE 4 irregularly sinc 4.1 I think, and regularly since 4.4 or 4.5. And while it's getting better and more stable, it has still way to go. Especially if you take programmes like amarok in to the count, which is still far away from it's earlier wealth of features.

I'm not quite sure how I could demonstrate the plasma desktop though. Don't have a laptop and am prob too lazy to pack my desktop up. Happy to have all the bloody cables out of the way. ;)
