We are looking to promote an evening of talks on Open Source in employment
and would really like to have other LUG members, friends, employers,
camp--followers and interested folk come along.

Could you pass this on to your groups especially those bordering the
Shropshire area

It is free and takes place on October 16 at Telford College (TF1 2NP)

Our web page includes the following information and a link to event-brite
(yeh I know but we talked BCS into promoting it to members and they like EB
- but email me your name/email if you don't want to use Eventbrite!).

Primarily this is something sneekily pulled together by myself and John
Alexander (of SLUG) to effectively be the glue layer between industry and
education to push the concept of open source to students to make them
realise there is a world of employment outside of Microfihgty - but it has
taken on a life of its own - read below.... (it also ticks a few boxes for
the Colleges social provision facilities to the community too!). We have
run this in the past and 75 people total came. We're doin' our bit.

*Event: Maximising your opportunities with open source*
*On October 16 – a Thursday night we have a series of talks at an event at
Telford College *

*Description*

Have you ever wondered whether you are using Open Source enough? Is it the
smart thing to do? Is it relevant to my business or career? Is it just for
geeks? Are there risks? Well this is the event to attend full of informed
students and experienced business professionals. Expect big discussions
seeded by concise talks describing how Open Source is using in different
sectors. You will be surprised, and hopefully inspired to go away and use
some of these marvellous tools. However there is always two sides to a coin
!

*An event not to be missed by smart students or business.*
