[HLUG] info for a newbie!

Hi Guys and Gals, Deep in cyber doodoo yet again, I must stop fidlin. I 
have removed windows from my sons computer and installed ubuntu 15.4, Great
Next job to do the same with my newly acquired Dell 745 Optiplex, Phuut, 
tried to load twice, got well on the way and failed. OK reset the BIOS, 
zilch, did a few hours Googlin!  double zilch. I now question if the 
partitions are OK, when i nuked Windows Vista with Hiren"s boot did i 
upset the thingy me do daas?
Any thoughts on how to solving my troubles would be much appreciated as 
at my age i am now loosing brain cells faster than i am learning.
