Hi

I have an afternoon off today .. a rare occurrence in the working week.

This got me thinking about summer when we may occasionally take a holiday
and actually have time to embark on some project you've been wanting to
tackle for ages.

I've been looking at collaboration tools to reduce my works reliance on
email as we do everything by email which is the wrong thing to do of course.

I'm looking at wire.com and Mattermost and Riot chat and messaging systems.
Rocket is another.

All can be installed on a vps or run hosted elsewhere. They can be accessed
by a phone app, website, normal desktop application anything really.

How you get the emails in there in the first case may be harder.. Riot
(Matrix) is a British organisation and their USP is that they can bridge
Riot to IRC, Slack, Google hangouts etc etc so you can talk to anyone even
if they use a different chat app..

All these apps are similar in nature but have their own nuances and
solutions and architecture some strong on security such as Wire, some on
interoperability with other systems ie Riot (Matrix) . Matrix is the
technology and Riot is just one of their client apps.

All in all they're are more than ever many great open source projects
around.

So what's floating your boat this Summer ?

Don't forget our Summer special meeting coming up at end of August ..

Julian
