Well, I installed Ubuntu 18.04, or possibly 20.04, on an AMD Phenom II last
December. The box was previously running Arch Linux.
It would have had the following process/motherboard combination:
- AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80GHz (Socket AM3)
- Asus M4A88TD-M EVOUSB3 AMD 880G (Socket AM3) DDR3 microATX Motherboard
Install was done as a standard live distro boot then executing the
installer once tested all was working.
The only things that I changed were the SSD and the graphics card (to one
supporting Vulkan), but it ran fine with the old card too.
If you are getting past the bootloader and it is crashing whilst detecting
hardware, etc then make sure that you have removed "quiet" and "splash"
from the boot options so that you stand a chance of getting more details.
