Its hackish! If you like it, fair enough.

I couldn't, I think its better to stay with something which works, which
is popular (last time i looked gentoo was hovering around the bottom of
the OS charts), and has lots of support in various places.

Gentoo seems to be a community of hackers who like to hack on gentoo,
most of what they do doesn't apply elsewhere.
