I think the real problem is that the answer to the question, as provided by
the learned gentlemans and ladies on this list, is 'no you can't build the
most secure laptop in the world'
You can build a laptop that is arguably more secure then any other one
avaialbe at that point in time but with so many variables and code submitted
from different sources plus user interaction it's only a matter of time
until a security vunlariblity is found.
Of course there are to other possible approaches to the problem;
one is to use a live cd with no persistent sessions. that way although are
possible security risks the potentail for exposure is reduced and since the
core os is stored on a write once media to the potential for tampering is
reduced.
the other more fescious way is to the wipe the hard drive, remove the
battery and lock it away in fort knox - arguably the most secure laptop in
the world - now where are my winnings.
