Well, I didn't seem to be getting on with debian 5.0 (beta) so I set up
another VBox VM and installed debian 4.0 etch which I had used before
and rather liked. That went OK and there is no kernel error on booting.
All the updates have gone in so I then tried to get the ledgersmb.deb
going. I seem to have unpacked it correctly in my /home/downloads
directory and I then did the advised apt-get for all the dependencies.
It didn't like postgresql-client-8.3 or 8.2 but it did put 8.1 in. So
now I have got all the dependencies and the ledgersmb.deb unpacked.
But I am still baffled, I assumed there would be a
configure/make/install to get it all going but there isn't. What's in my
download directory are a lot of stuff in various directories named the
same as in root. So I assumed that what was in them should go in the
root directories of the same name. Done that. Now what?
I have looked all over the ledgersmb website for installation
instructions (linux) but can find none.
Am I doing something stupid here or do they not want people to succeed?
Getting slightly exasperated now. But still willing to soldier on if
there is some advice.
