Total agreement, at my place in Utrecht we have a TV, (not that I watch it
much), which receives far to many channels. More importantly tho, it
receives channels from all over the place, german, french, spanish,
italian, US, british (bbc) and al Jazeer. The content on the BBC is by
far the best content of them all, the production quality is just superior.

Irony of it all? in Utrecht we get the 4 main BBC channels, and without
having a tv license to pay...

Really does feel like a tax in the UK tho.

I have a number of DVD's of shows produced by the BBC Natural history
unit, things like Blue Planet, Life of plants etc... But I bought a DVD
from amazon.com of a BBC documentary series that wasn't released on DVD in
the uk. The DVD was called the Atlas of the world: Europe and Africa. It
arrived, I put it in my desktop, nothing. I put it in my laptop, nothing.
My housemates Mac, 5 seconds of content, then nothing. I used DD to read
the content off bit by bit to see if I could persuade mplayer, Nothing.
Turns out that the DVD that I paid good money for, wont play in any
computer based player, (I had a region 1 dvd drive imported for me). When
you consider that even with a legit DVD I paid good money for, I can't
actually view the content in anyway I have available. It is no surprise
that people opt to just get things from our friends in Sweden.
