"We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to work within a team of
technical IT staff which has responsibility for the design, development,
support and maintenance of the University’s mission critical Unix (Linux and
Solaris) systems.
You will have knowledge of the practice of systems administration,
including: identity management, security, patching, packaging, automation
and backup; and building, installing and configuring open source software.
You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed
multiple servers in a heterogeneous and complex environment.
You will have a working knowledge of file transfer mechanisms, iSCSI, fibre
channel and cluster file systems such as GPFS. You should be fluent in
python and bash scripting languages and debugging software.
You must possess knowledge and experience including but not limited to:
Solaris and GNU/Linux operating systems; sparc and x86 hardware; monitoring,
virtualisation for Linux (such as Xen) and Solaris (zones), configuration
management (including bcfg2) and databases."

"A vacancy has arisen for a Senior IT Support Specialist to work as part of
the Service Delivery division within IT Services. The successful candidate
will work as part of an established team of 13 whose collective role is to
provide desktop and server support to research groups and teaching
departments in the Faculty of Engineering. The roleholder will work on the
delivery of end-user support to the Department of Computer Science. This is
an open ended post.
The roleholder will contribute significantly in the delivery of Linux
solutions at all levels, including – but not limited to – the development of
stable, sustainable Linux desktop distributions and multiuser servers;
automated monitoring, security and license management and updating on server
systems, including rolling out consistent practices for existing systems;
procurement, provisioning, configuration and systems administration of
systems and servers from initiation to completion; engagement with teaching
and research issues and the provision of advice to academic staff writing
grant proposals. Server side, the existing fleet draws on Enterprise Solaris
(v8 to 10) & Linux (Centos and Ubuntu) Administration, NIS, LDAP (inc. AD
integration), NFS, ZFS and VMWare and XEN virtualisation."
