[Nottingham] Printing issue, any suggestions?

Hi,

I recently set about changing my working system from XP to Linux, and so far
my progress has been good apart from one outstanding issue: Printing. Any
help you can offer would be appreciated, though I do realise that this is a
local user group and not a technical support group!

Basically, I can print graphics (e.g. through Gimp, and the SuSE 8.1 YaST2
test page), but text/PS printing always does the same thing - I get lines 2
& 3 from the first page, very lightly printed, followed by lots of blank
pages. I've tried printing from OpenOffice.org and Kate, and I get the same
thing in each case.

I've tried changing my print system between CUPS and LPR, but only through
the KDE control centre, and my knowledge of why I should change these
settings is limited.

It's really frustrating having come so close to a complete system (CD
writing, MP3 ripping / playing, Document editing, Financial spreadsheet
editing, Web and email access, and Web page and Graphics editing are all
working on my system now :-) ) to be held up by such a basic thing.

Any help appreciated,

Jim
