Got it

Well, found a solution, which was to remove the mod_gzip. 
Afterwards, I re-ran the problem page, and found that it could 
not open a file for writting becuase it needed chmod o+w.
Completly different file to the one showing up in the logs.

Thanks for the helpful comments, becuase to be honest I was 
really feeling defeated. Your mail encouraged me to persist 
and solve the problem.
