The only stuff I've done with digi cams has been with a friend's Sony
one (oh and Simon Huggins' one, but that used my twisted card reader
thingy).  For the Sony one, I compiled the CONFIG_USB_STORAGE module
option in the kernel (aka "USB Mass Storage" I think).  Loading this
module meant that when I plugged the device in, I got a new device:
/dev/sda and mounting /dev/sda1 somewhere gave me a vfat filesystem.

Having said that, I don't know if GPhoto or FLPhoto are meant to cope
without that...
