Hello there to all on this list, just thought id make myself known in
some form or another to people, would rather do that than just read all
the other posts! I myelf am 19, quite new to Linux...I have tried it on
and off for a year or two maybe (very quickly, just dabbling to be
honest) until the last attempt which i used slackware linux for, used it
for quite some time but found myself compelled to remove as many of the
packaages as i could to see which ones were neccasary and ending up
breaking it too many times...all in the learning i suppose :) (i didnt
randomly remove them or anyting, it was thought out...)

Anyways, i feel like having a go at a different distro...one that has
caught my eye is Core Linux simply because i really want a
do-it-yourself Linux, i've read whats involved and although its a
long(ish) process i think id like to have a shot. The reason i wanted to
go for core was because the thing that annoys me most about my previous
linux attempts is all the 'bloat' of some Distro's. Slackware was a lot
better but Mandrake and Suse etc all seemed very overpacked, the default
package selections seemed to take the route of "install everything now
so you wont have to in future" and i didnt like it. I know you can
choose packages on all them during install but a lot of the time i wasnt
sure what packages were *really* required.

Anyhow so i thought I'd try core and see how i go, no doubt ill mess it
up along the way but it all helps, hopefully afterward ill have a nice
working command line with some tools and driver support for basic
drivers etc and have learnt a bit in the process, im all up for some
command line action without a GUI, in fact that appeals to me a lot and
i did most of the tasks i had to on the command line in the distro's ive
tried, much more rewarding i found.

So..i thought with all this linux might be helpful to have a group of
people who are willing to give tips etc, people who you can talk to in
the flesh rather than a channel on irc or some man pages..probably makes
it much easier to begin with, so i found you guys :)

Anyway im gonna stop blabbin on now, quick question though....whens the
next social meeting? Would be good to meet you all, see who makes up the
group if im welcome!

Hopefully see you later,
Mick
