you can probably handle one 'line' either by reconfiguring the UART or
using techniques used by LIRC to read serial data from a status
signal. But you will need to get your soldering iron out to make a
custom connector at least, or if your signal is two lines (clock +
data) then you will need to combine them somehow...

I'd start with LIRC and see how close that is to what you want.
