Hi Will,
>From a company owners perspective in a small and growing business
environment cost is a major issue, wages are no problem to cover but when
you start to deal with recruitment agencies charging 20% upwards of first
year salary it become cost prohibitive especially as we have multiple
recruitment requirements.
Add to this a general distrust of the industry from being on the employee
side, sharing a flat with a recruitment consultant for computer futures and
seeing what "quality selection" involved. I know you should not tar everyone
with the same brush but it is a very hard image to shift.
If there were more creative ways of paying for recruitment services then it
would be more appealing such as factoring the recruitment fee over a period
rather than as a lump sum would potentially make it more suitable to smaller
companies.
I would be interested off list, via email, on what you terms and conditions
are and what process you undertake to secure the right candidates and
therefore employee. And more importantly if you have anyone suitable.
Dave

Looking at the situation from the other side of the fence, I'm a recruitment
consultant, and I try to focus on the open source market. PHP developers
are very much in demand at the moment, as open source becomes ever more
popular across the board.
I get a lot a feedback from people saying that they don't like to deal with
recruitment agencies, but I would appreciate any constructive feedback as to
why this is, and what I can do to overcome it. As good developers are
becoming increasingly more in demand, surely there must be a place for good
quality recruitment consultancies?
Cheers,
Will.
Isn't every one!
I have a job spec on Fish 4 with up to 30K on offer and not a single CV so
far in compassion to the 12 we have had for the junior web designer.
