I have to say folk that from the discussions so far I:

a) I have learned quite a bit about what is available in terms of software that I can explore
b) Reinforced my thinking that I need to improve my skills with PHP, MySQL and so on because they are the building blocks
c) I have learned a bit about how professionals approach things,  I am just thinking about taking things up a notch on a part-time, freelance basis.

What more can anyone ask from user group like this! :-)

I can go happily learning the ropes as they say.
