This I have tried. I get a click and then back to normal on boot up. I did
notice that when I recompiled the kernel last time in included some 'console
mode switching' support and since then I get a Tux graphic at the top of the
screen and the text is slightly smaller than standard. This is the same now
(with the vga=794) but I get a monitor click also.
Does this amount to needing to use the VESA driver?
As I don't play that many games maybe I'll just not meddle with it.
(...Thinks back to when he tried to get Open GL to work properly to play
Quake II in glorious accelerate-o-vision, with zero success...)
Thanks to all parties for the information, anyhow.
:-)
