Side-by-side comparisons here are few and far between.
Glenn Goulds analogue and digital Goldbergs were 30
years apart, so not a good comparison.

There is the case of the Nimbus records recorded
direct to disk (no tape) in the 80s, and subsequently
released on CD. I don't know whether the CDs were from
simultaneous digital recordings however.

As for bandwidth, Ian must be joking, CDs destroy the
high treble - and where is the ``air'' around the strings?
All the subtleties of  a room's acoustic can be  lost by CD.
