People chose Linux because they themselves can freely modify whatever
they want without the need to hassle developers of xyz packages. Under
Windows and propietary software there is no and indeed very little
chance of the software being modified by them for your own needs. If
you want something doing, you do it yourself.
I run 100% open source applications and wont entertain anything
propietary because if I dont like the want something appears I want to
change it.
My iPaq runs GPE, I didnt like some of the things GPE was doing, so I
just changed them to my own liking. Getting the GPE team to do it would
take months of nagging and I couldnt gaurentee they would actually do it
anyway. I did it myself in a couple of hours and now I have a very
usable iPaq running GPE.
Forgive me for saying but I feel you are a Windows developer coming into
the Linux software world. Windows developers are all about binary
distribution and keeping source code locked in Fort Knoxx. Linux
developers are completely the opposite.
Linux Devs can make a lot of money through support rather than the sale
of a package. I know, thats how I earn a living ;)
Im sorry if this seems to be an attack, its not intended to be, just im
getting a little bored with the constant trebus spam ;)
Maybe you need to a create your own trebus mailing list. Or request a
sourceforge.net project for it ?
