What partition is Ubuntu's /boot in? If you use (hd0,blah)/vmlinuz...
that should work for the right blah if /boot is a separate partition
which I'm assuming it is if you can't find it on the root.
I still think tab completion from grub is the way to find this if you're
just guessing.
