You don't have the pwcx driver -- is that still separate, or has the patch 
merged it somehow?  That made a big difference to performance when using 
larger resolutions, in my tests (maybe just because I did them on a 
Celeron/333!).

Excellent.  I'm still unsure about which was the correct decision; 
idealism annoys me, but they [the kernel authors] are right in the sense 
that the distribution compilers are free to include it - I can't imagine 
any ordinary users are going to compile their own kernels, these days.
